Title: China startups: legitimate boom or dot-com bust all over again?

 Details:

 A few years ago, the central Chinese economic authorities targeted annual growth at 7-8er annum.  That was then, this is now.  In the second quarter of this year alone, China’s overall economy grew at over 11 The hype is there, the stock markets are heated and every single VC I know is interested in the region.  Valuations are higher than Silicon Valley but there are more and more IPOs coming out: rumors are that Alibaba and Zhengtu will go public at some point over the next few months at valuations in the billions of dollars.   

 

What will happen in the future?  What is happening now?? 

Over the last 12-18 months, I’ve been working with a couple of Chinese companies closely: Tudou, the largest video company in China, which in April beat YouTube in terms of minutes and traffic;  Zhengtu, one of the largest gaming companies in China, which beat #1 World of Warcraft; and other consumer focused companies in Shanghai and Beijing.  

 

I would love to get a few folks together who are either working in the region, investing in the region or simply intrigued by the region to come to join me in an informal discussion.  No slides, no hype, no egos, just hopefully some good ideas.
